Our Story

How It All Began

In 2009, Johan Behr set out to address a growing need for reliable and affordable electrical infrastructure across South Africa’s urban and rural landscapes. With just ten employees and a clear vision, Retrolex Transformers was born. What started as a small operation quickly gained momentum—growing into a team of over thirty and relocating to larger premises in Anderbolt, Boksburg.

Driven by a passion for quality and innovation, Retrolex began specializing in the refurbishment of distribution transformers and mini-substations (from 25 kVA to 2 000 kVA), the construction of mobile oil purification plants, and the reconditioning of transformer oil. Through dedication and hands-on expertise, the company built a solid reputation for excellence.
